For some forty years, Vortex Records was one of the most highly thought-of used record stores in Toronto. Up a flight of stairs at Yonge & Eglinton, proprietor Bert Myers bought and sold vinyl records and CDs with a simple philosophy that outlasted every trend the music business threw at it: quality goods at great prices and a fair dollar paid for your used goods. That, and and straight talk in both directions.
Generations of Torontonians sold Vortex their collections, rebuilt new ones from its bins, and came back over the years with their kids. The store collected countless “Best Record Store” honours and, better than any award, the loyalty of a city.
Vortex closed in 2016, when Bert retired. It is missed.
